Minutes from the November 7, 2019 Meeting
Call to Order: 7:00 PM at Karl Tyler’s Chevrolet.
Members Present: Don Matlock, Sherri Schmidt, Norm & Cathy Smyers, Joe Moran, Larry Jones, Phil Barba, John Christensen, Shirley & Duane Shinn, Paul Coonan.
Meeting Minutes/Newsletter: Don asked if everyone had read the minutes of the Oct. 3, 2019, meeting and if there were any questions and/or corrections; being none, Larry moved to accept the minutes as submitted; Norm seconded; minutes were approved.
Financial Report: Larry distributed copies of the Income & Expense Statement dated Oct. 31, 2019. No income was reported. Expenses included $75.43 for supplies/postage. Don asked if there were any questions; being none, Joe moved to accept the financial report, Sherri seconded; motion approved.
Correspondence: Larry reported that he had received a notification from the IRS indicating the club had not filed a 2018 federal tax return. He said Marty Kux usually handled this and that he will contact Marty to take care of it. Don reported that he had received an email, along with survey preferences, from Ron Beck who indicated that he would accept a nomination for Vice Presidency of the club.
Shirley reviewed the trip to Rivers Edge. Four cars (three Corvettes) made the run which included a good lunch and perfect weather.
Survey Results: After some discussion members agreed on the following points: keep our official business meeting on the first Thursday of April—November (summer meetings can co-inside with events); no meetings during January, February and March, although spontaneous social gatherings are encouraged; keep meeting location at Karl Tyler’s but add more meetings in the Bitterroot; year-end meeting with Xmas Party in December. (Don noted that current state law requires organizations to hold one meeting per year)
Xmas Party: After discussing several options, members decided to have the Xmas Party at Jaker’s on Saturday, Dec. 7, at 2:00 pm. We will order off the menu. For those wishing to participate in the “White Elephant or Other” gift exchange, we set a max value of $25. Members are asked to RSVP by December 1, to the website email or call Cathy at 543-9775. (An email reminder will be sent out).
Nomination of Officers: President—Paul Coonan, Vice President—Ron Beck, Secretary—Cathy Smyers, Treasurer, Ed Schmidt. (Sherri called Ed, since he wasn’t present at the meeting, and he agreed to run). Since no one else stepped forward to run for office, Don asked for a motion to direct the secretary to cast a unanimous ballot for the slate of nominees. Larry presented a motion to cast a unanimous ballot for the nominated candidates; Sherri seconded; motion approved. (The term for the new officers begins in January 2020, even though we will not have a formal meeting until April, 2020).
By-Laws Committee: Don said he wants to set up a committee to revise our by-laws. There are several versions of our by-laws, none of which have a date on them; further, there is no record of any of them being approved. He asked for volunteers to work with him; Shirley volunteered. Work will commence in the new year.
Good of the Order: Joe reported that his wife Charlotte took a bad fall, but that she’s steadily improving. Cathy reported that Norm’s last Mayo Clinic visit was all good and that he will only need to go back once a year for rechecks. Someone asked Paul about his Corvette ticket on July 4. Paul said he has to take an on-line driver safety course (especially designed for Corvette owners…right…:) and if he passes, the ticket will be dismissed and he can keep his Uber license!
Next Meeting is Saturday, Dec. 7, 2:00, at the Xmas Party location, Jaker’s in Missoula on Brooks St.
